Driver CPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence) is a qualification for lorry, bus and coach drivers. It was introduced across Europe in 2009 with the aim of improving road safety and to help maintain high standards for professional drivers. In September of that year it became legislation within the United Kingdom.
In general Driver CPC is required by drivers of lorries over 3.5 tonnes and buses or coaches with more than 9 seats. New drivers need to complete a total of 4 modules in order to drive commercially. On completion of the fourth module they will be issued with a Driver Qualification Card, which will be valid for 5 years. During this period they will be required to undergo 35 hours of Periodic Training to revalidate their qualification. Failure to comply can result in the Driver CPC being revoked.
HJ PearsonĀ & Sons have been offering Driver CPC Periodic Training via a series of different modules since the qualification was introduced in 2009. Drivers are required to attend a total of 35 hours of training within a 5 year period. This training is broken down into five, seven hour long sessions which would ideally be spread over the 5 years.
